FAQ + TIPS & TRICKS.

WHAT IS MDF?

  • Medium-density fibreboard (MDF) is an engineered wood product made from wood fibres combined with a resin binder. It has no wood grain and is naturally a light sandy beige color. The MDF used for our cut outs is 1/4" thick.

  • MDF may swell if saturated with water. For this reason MDF is recommended for indoor use only.

PAINTING:

  • Acrylic or other craft paint applied with a small high quality crafter's paint brush is the best way to paint your cut out. This is preferred over spray painting which can pool on top when trying to spray the edges.

  • If you're experiencing brush strokes on the surface of your cut out, a disposable mini foam roller can be used to lightly smooth over the top of your cut out.

  • You may also choose to add a clear coat on top of your cut out to protect it further. A clear spray works fine for this if you're focusing on the top surface of the cut out and not the edges. This is especially recommended for dark colors to prevent them from looking dusty.

  • MDF should not be stained.

HANGING:

  • It is the buyers responsibility to ensure cut outs are installed safely and securely. We do not provide any mounting hardware or adhesives with our cut outs.

  • There are many methods used to hang cut outs. The most popular is a high quality double sided mounting adhesive/tape.

  • If your name/word cut out is in a cursive font, you may be able to hang it by strategically placing a couple of small nails for the loops of the letters to rest on. This method in addition to using adhesives is great because the nails will catch your cut out if the adhesive were to fail.

  • Cut outs may also be nailed directly to the wall with a brad nailer. This method may require some wood filler/paint touch up.
